There are cocktails that quench your thirst, and then there are cocktails that transport you. The Sunset in Bloom is the latter—a drink so beautiful, so aromatic, and so perfectly balanced that it feels like capturing golden hour in a glass.
Named by a friend who described it perfectly—"The citrus and lavender flavors combined with honey remind me of a beautiful sunset, and the bloom part captures the essence of the essential oils"—this cocktail is a celebration of nature's most beautiful colors and scents. At Dr. Hermann's Essentials, we believe that the best cocktails tell a story. The Sunset in Bloom tells a story of warmth, beauty, and the simple pleasure of a perfect sip.
The Inspiration Behind Sunset in Bloom
This cocktail was born from a moment of creative inspiration—a desire to capture the magic of a sunset in a glass. The warm golden hues of honey, the deep orange-red of blood orange juice, and the effervescent sparkle of tonic water combine to create a drink that looks as beautiful as it tastes.
But what truly sets the Sunset in Bloom apart is the choice of essential oil. Two versions exist:
-
Version 1: Citrus Bloom – Bright, vibrant, and sunny, with our Citrus Oil Mix adding a burst of fresh, zesty flavor.
-
Version 2: Lavender Bloom – Floral, soothing, and elegant, with our Lavender Oil adding a gentle, aromatic whisper.
Why This Recipe Works

-

-

The Perfect Sip: A harmonious blend of sweet honey, tart blood orange, smooth rum, and effervescent tonic, lifted to another level by your choice of vibrant citrus or soothing floral essential oils.
Tips for the Perfect Sunset in Bloom
Warm the honey: Warming the honey slightly (in a hot water bath or a few seconds in the microwave) makes it much easier to dissolve into the rum.
Use fresh blood orange juice: Freshly squeezed juice makes a noticeable difference in flavor. If blood oranges are not in season, substitute with fresh orange juice and a splash of cranberry for color.
Adjust sweetness: The honey amount can be adjusted to your preference. Use ½ shot for a less sweet cocktail.
Choose your bloom: Both versions are delicious—Citrus for a bright, sunny experience; Lavender for a floral, soothing one.
Garnish beautifully: The garnish adds visual appeal and enhances the aroma with every sip.
Variations to Try
Sunset Spritz: Replace the rum with prosecco and add a splash of soda water for a lighter, lower-alcohol version.
Sunset Mocktail: Omit the rum and increase the tonic water for a refreshing non-alcoholic version.
Spiced Sunset: Add a drop of cinnamon oil to the Citrus version for a warm, spicy twist.
Berry Sunset: Muddle fresh raspberries or blackberries into the glass before adding the other ingredients.
