Figs with a Touch of Essential Oils

Figs with a Touch of Essential Oils

Fruits are always good for dessert or a snack in between and they are healthy and good for you. According to a report by the Food Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, based on the world production in 2023. the most popular fruits are banana, watermelon, apple, grapes, oranges, mango, pineapple, peach, pear, and several others. However, figs did not make into this list.

Figs are the edible fruits of the plant Ficus carica, a tree or shrub, native to the Mediterranean region. Figs can be consumed fresh or dried, or processed into jam, rolls, biscuits and other types of desserts. Figs contain mostly water, up to 79%, 19% carbohydrates, 1% protein, and less than 1% fat. Figs are soft and have a delicious sweet taste often described as a mix between dates and strawberries.

Needed

  • Fresh figs rinsed with lukewarm water

Finding the best figs; hold them between your thumb and pointer and gently squeeze. When it feels like a firm rubber ball, then it is a good fig. The ones that are too hard are not ripe and the ones that are too soft and mushy are overripe.

  • Essential oils from Dr Hermann’s Essentials all in extra virgin olive oil
    • Oil of cinnamon
    • Oil of sage
    • Oil of lavender
    • Oil of ginger
    • Citrus Oil Mix

Preparation

  • Cut off the little stem of the figs and cut into 2 halves of equal size
  • Add 1 spray of essential oil on each half of the fig.
  • Spread the 1 drop of essential oil evenly with a back of a knife.
  • Let it sit for 10 to 15 minutes and then serve.

With this easy DIY project, you can create some startling figs you can eat as a snack, in a fruit salad or add as a surprise to a charcuterie platter.

My favorites are the figs with the Citrus Oil Mix and the oil of lavender, followed by oil of sage.
